The 2018 Spelling Bee

One Wednesday afternoon, we had our school spelling bee. It was set up and run by Mr. Jeffers. Over 30 boys took part on the day. Gradually, everyone bar 3 people got knocked out. It was myself, Adam Hughes and Alex Quinlan. Then Alex was out, so it was just me and Adam left. It was an 1 on 1 battle for a few rounds. Suddenly, Adam spelt a word wrong. I was asked the word 'sarcophagus'. I spelt correctly. I had won! I was selected to go to the Cork spelling bee for the second time. I was so excited. So, on Wednesday  the 21st of March, I went to Rochestown Park Hotel for the Spelling Bee with my parents and my brother. When we arrived we went upstairs to a hall where it took place. I registered, and we went in and sat down. Then we were called up as it was starting. First we went through a practise round. Then we got onto the actual tournament. The first few rounds were easy and nobody got knocked out. Then people started dropping like flies. I went all the way to round 10. I got knocked out on the word,'whummle'. I came joined 8th out of 65 people. That was my last spelling bee, as there are no more in Secondary School. I had a great day.
