Sciath na Scol Hurling 2017
At the start of January we started our Sciath na Scol hurling campaign training in the Glen Resource Centre. Mr. Horgan did a light session to start with but over the next few weeks we progressed to more difficult and enjoyable skill sessions with Mr. Foley helping out also. In March we went up to the Tank Field to do our first proper session.
Our first match was against Midleton CBS up the Tank. We started well but conceded two sloppy goals towards the end of the first half. We came out flying in the second half with two great goals. After a few minutes Mr. Horgan made a few changes. The final score was 7-2 to 2 goals.
Next we went to play the North Mon in an intense game. It was back and forth till the very end with us come out winners by two points. The next few games were a bit easier against St Johns and Togher but we kept the momentum going
On the 5th of May we had the semi final against St.Patricks Bandon. It has a really scrappy game with a heavy wind. It was 4 points to nil at half time. In the second half we were practically pinned in our own half. Every time we pushed forward we got a score. Bandon scored a goal in the last 10 minutes but we managed to hold on to win by 2 points.
The final was on the 29th of May in Paírc Uí Rinn, we were all really looking forward to it. When we arrived we went straight into the dressing rooms and got changed into our gear. We watched the end of the game on before us and afterwards we went out onto the pitch to do our normal warm up. Kane and myself did puck outs and frees and the other s did pucking and raising the ball. Eoghan was the captain and Michael and I were the vice captains.
The game started quickly with Scott getting an early goal. Midleton came on an attack with a goal mouth scramble and according to the Echo I made a breathtaking save. From that we got a goal to make it 2-1 to no score. When the first half ended the score was 2-5 to 1 point.
Midleton came out all guns blazing in the 2nd half getting an early goal and point. Michael Lane got a few scores and made the score 3-7 to 1-3. Towards the end of the game Midleton scored an arguable goal. The final score was 3-7 to 2-4.
When we went up to get the cup we all got medals and Eoghan Varian raised the cup high. When we went back into the dressing room we were all singing. When we got back to the school the boys gave us a guard of honour .Finally we had an assembly and Michael and Eoghan gave a speech in front of all our proud suppporters.
Overall it was a great tournament and we are all really glad we won the Sciath na Scol. Scoíl Padraig Naofa Abú. Thank you Mr. Horgan, Mr. Foley and Cian O' Brien for coaching us. Thank you to all the boys and our parents for shouting and cheering us all the way.
