Two in a row

On the 30th of May 2018 in Pairc Uí Rinn was the meeting of Midleton C.B.S and St Patricks B.N.S for the second year in a row. Midleton were going into this game with an advantage after beating St Pats by 24 points in the group game but St Pats had come on strides and strides since that game. Before the game St Patricks had another one of the inspirational team talks by the legendary Mr. Horgan which got the St Patricks team fired up. At 11.30 am the ball got thrown in on the sweltering hot summers morning.
The game got off to a strong start as both teams scrapped for the sliotar like dogs. St Pa’s won a free 4 minutes into the half and Kane O’ Brien known as “Bootsy” slotted over the first score. Just before half time break Midletons mighty Adam Lee scored a free dropped in by their no.6 Daniel Garde. At half time the score was 1-2 to 0-3 to Midleton but St Patricks were confident that they could pull it back to draw level.
The ball was thrown in to start the second half and Michael Quill won the throw in and quickly bounce passed it into Cian Raymond’s hand and Cian took on two or three players but failed to score. A quick puck out from Owen Rabitte saw Scott Lawler take a lovely touch and a quick solo run before putting it in Oran Ross' hand who turned for goal and hammered it in to the back of the Midleton net.
With a minute and a half left St Pa’s were leading by 3 points and then Midleton scored 2 points with 30 seconds remaining. St Patricks defence line was unbeatable which meant St Pat’s held on for a one-point victory by 1-7 to 1-6. To be fair to Midleton they put up a great battle against St Pats.
Captain Lee Butler lifted the cup over his head alongside vice-captain Kane O’ Brien who lifted the plaque. The support on the day was led by Liam, Joshia and Stephen Power. When the players got back to their school on Gardeners Hill they got an assembly organised by Mr. Foley. For the first time in 60 years St Patricks have won the hurling Sciath na scol final for 2 years in a row. A day to remember for St. Pats.
