Homework Club

After School Activities

The homework club runs after school from Monday to Thursday. The homework club is run for fourth to sixth class boys who benefit from completing their homework before going home. The boys are supervised whilst doing their homework by a classroom teacher who checks to see if work is completed. The teacher signs for any homework which is completed but overall responsibility for homework lies with both the boy and his parents. The boys are given application forms whenever new enrolement is being taken.Numbers are kept small in order to maintain a positive working environment in the club. A snack and drink are provided for the boys in the club.

Overall it is a very successful club but don't take my word for it. Here's what the boys think.

HOMEWORK CLUB IS A PEACEFUL QUIET ROOM WHERE YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
WHEN YOU HAVE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK THE TEACHERS TAKE YOU OUT OF THE CLASSROOM AND BRING YOU TO EITHER THE BOTTOM SCHOOL YARD OR THE SCHOOL HALL.
THEN YOU DO A LOT OF ACTIVITIES FOR HALF AN HOUR. SUCH AS, SOCCER, DODGE BALL, BASKET BALL, COMPUTERS AND OLYMPIC HAND BALL.
HOMEWORK CLUB STARTS AT HALF PAST TWO AND ENDS AT FOUR O CLOCK.
THERE ARE 3 GROUPS: THE 6TH CLASS IS IN MR MULLIN'S ROOM.THE 5TH IS IN THE NEW BULDING AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE 4TH CLASS IS IN MR O CONNELL'S ROOM.
THE TEACHERS ALSO HELP YOU WITH YOUR HOME WORK.
WE THINK IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA BECAUSE WHEN YOU GO HOME AT FOUR O CLOCK YOU WILL HAVE ALL THE TIME TO YOURSELF.

Apart from free rolls and water, the homework club gives you the opportunity to finish your homework which enables you to play with your friends straight away when you get home! It starts at half two and runs until half three, giving you an hour to finish your homework. The teacher helps you with your work if you get stuck and examines your spellings etc. If you are done your work you can read your library book quietly until the club is over. I would recommend other people apply for a place in the homework club because I enjoy it and it would benefit others.

My name is Richard and I am in 6th class in St. Patrick's school. After school every day except Friday I go to the homework club. I'll now tell you what I do. I leave my classroom when the bell rings and I line up outside the classroom where homework club is. We wait for a few minutes and the teacher comes. We go in and sit at our desk .The teacher will then give out the rolls and water. You can get a chicken, cheese or ham roll. Sometimes if the teacher is late we get the rolls at the end. The teachers give you a few minutes to eat your roll. If you don't get it finished you can finish it at the end. You then get an hour to do your homework. When you are done you bring it up to the teacher and he/she checks it. Any homework not finished in homework club you do at home. This is my third time in homework club and it really helps me to get things done.
